Up From Slavery
Booker was born into slavery, just another slave on a prosperous estate. But after the American Civil War set him and his family free, Booker starts earning his way through school, working night and day to receive an education. He goes on to tell of his journeys as he sets up a school of his own with values and virtues like no other school. He teaches his students to work hard and to work honestly for what they have. This story shows us how hard work and a willing heart can accomplish great things.
Up From Slavery is a very long read, and might bore the younger or impatient reader, although it is good book with lots of history and life lessons.
