From:
Through Gates of Splendour
In 1956, five young men travelled into the jungles of Ecuador to establish communication with the fierce Huaorani Tribe, a people whose only previous response to the outside world has been to attack all strangers. The men's mission combined modern technology with innate ingenuity, sparked by a passionate determination to get the Gospel to those without Christ.
They worked tirelessly in the grim realities, learning the complicated language, setting up an airstrip, settling with their families, and, most of all, learning all they could of the people they were to encounter.
Finally, the day came. In their treehouse near the tribe's settlement, they excitedly wired to their wives that the people were coming!
Their wives waited for the rest of the day for the news of the meeting. But as hour after silent hour snuck by, the message never came.
This is a pretty straightforward book. It is a sad but encouraging story, with a legacy that lives on to this very day in the jungles where they served. Perhaps it is better for ages 12+.
