Easy Bread/Bun Recipe
We got this recipe from a very good friend of ours, and it is our go-to recipe whenever we need bread or buns. It's pretty easy and makes a soft, fluffy bread!
Ingredients
8 cups white/sifted flour
1 tablespoon sugar or honey
1 tablespoon instant dried yeast
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons oil
About 600-650ml lukewarm water
Instructions
Combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and make a hollow in the centre.
Mix the oil with 600ml of the water. If you're using honey for your sweetener, whisk it in as well. Gradually stir the oil mixture into the dry mixture. Mix to form a dough that is just soft enough to be kneaded. Add more water if the mixture is too stiff or dry.
Knead the dough by hand until it is soft and elastic (8-10 minutes). Sprinkle flour over the dough as you knead to help it stick together.
Put the dough back into the bowl and cover. Leave it to rise in a nice, warm place for about 30 minutes or until double in volume.
Once it has finished with the first rise, take it out and knead it again for a few minutes. Now, either form dough into buns or for loaves place in two greased bread tins.
Cover the bread again and let rise in a warm place for another 30-40 minutes or until almost double in size.
Meanwhile preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
When the bread has finished rising put them into the oven and bake for about 20 minutes, then take out and glaze with milk or egg (beaten) and return to the oven to finish baking.
Turn out on a cooling rack and cool slightly before serving.
